Euphotic, from the Greek (εὖ "well" + φῶς "light"), meaning “well lit”.
Euphotic makes reference to upper layers of a body of water into which sufficient light penetrates to permit photosynthesis, thus enabling growth of green plants.
The Euphotic Foundation is the pendant to Aphotic, San Francisco based Michelin starred seafood restaurant and led respectively by Marie and Peter Hemsley.
Our Story
With Aphotic restaurant, Chef Peter Hemsley set out to establish a best-practice seafood restaurant with transparency and traceability as core objectives. His close relationship with fishermen showed him the necessity to support and highlight this profession.
Under the leadership of Marie Hemsley, the Euphotic Foundation is committed to helping small and independent fishermen and aquaculture companies from the West Coast who share those same values of traceability, and to highlight the importance of supporting a sustainable fishing industry while protecting our oceans.
